Help! I’m surrounded by creativity….(Part Two)

Here they go again. The women in my family continue to outshine me with their artistic talent on a regular basis. While I have trouble drawing recognizable stick men, my wife is expanding her painting horizons within several media. I always knew she had a latent talent as an artist just from a few times she dabbled in it early in our marriage.

In the past couple of years she has taken classes in watercolors, acrylic, oil painting and colored pencil. But it’s the colored pencil medium that I want to share with you today. She did a pencil drawing from a photograph of a blue heron taken in our backyard a couple of years ago. This was a painstaking and time-consuming effort, but well worth the result.

Her instructor insisted that this be included in a recent exhibit at the Museum of Contemporary Art here in Virginia Beach.

P.S. For those of you who are interested, below is my latest rendition of two stick men shaking hands (not on exhibit anywhere).

  1. Yes Al….your wife has an amazing talent and I stand in awe of that. I think I am somewhere in between your drawing and hers on the artistic meter…..though I think it is more near your drawing than your wifes’! Look on the bright side….our efforts just make the really talented people look better yet LOL.

  2. Isn’t art fascinating! I could tell right away that your wife drew a blue heron. I could also immediately see that your drawing was two men shaking hands. While your wife is obviously talented, you would probably do much better if she would let you use the green and blue pencils…

  3. That is GORGEOUS!! Your wife is a star with those pencils.

My mum is an artist, so I used to watch her for hours turning blank paper into magical beautiful scenery. The best ones were when the cat wander through her paint and left brightly coloured paw prints in the sky. She was brilliant as turning those paw-marks into sunsets. It is so fun to have talented ladies in your life isn’t it! 😀

    • Thank you so much for commenting, Josy. You might want to read the article “Postage Stamp” art that appears at the bottom of my post. It was my mother’s favorite medium.

  4. Ohh Patty, this is just beautiful. The colours and way you have captured the reflections are magic. Happy exploring with your creativity my lovely. xXx Al, my Bro, your stick man are a valid attempt and I will never forget the day I got to hold your hand. ❤ xXx

  5. I once joined a water colour painting class and we were asked to paint a bowl of fruit. Not the actual bowl of fruit of course, but a copy of it on canvas. After a time the teacher walked round saying things like “Very good, perhaps a little more red shading in the apples” and that kind of thing but when he came to my horror story on I could almost hear him trying to think of something supportive to say before discretion got the better of him and he walked on in silence. For that reason I applaud your efforts, and you are never alone at the back of the art class !!

  6. Phenomenal.    Marc
