Little gravie, won’t you please come home!

Does anyone know if there is a lost and found for gravatars? Mine is most definitely lost. In just the last week or so, when I post a comment on blogs that I follow, my sweet little innocent gravatar (which I affectionately call “gravie”) with it’s smiling faces is replaced by an unfeeling, uncaring generic symbol that only a gravatar mother could love. Why, I don’t even know if the blogger reading the comment realizes that it’s the same old clever, witty and urbane Al that they have always come to expect. It’s disconcerting, as I already have an inferiority complex and this has done nothing to allay my belief that nobody loves me. I worked very hard to create my globally recognized avatar. Did you know that’s what a gravatar is? Apparently WordPress doesn’t, because their spell checker rejects it every time, even though that’s what they call it themselves. So if you see “gravie” wandering aimlessly around the WordPress grounds, please tell it to come home. All is forgiven.

LOST! This globally recognized avatar. Answers to the name of “gravie”. If found, please notify Big Al at thecvillean.wordpress.com. A reward is open for negotiation….if you can prove you’re not the one who took it.

LATE DEVELOPMENT: As it turns out, the WordPress Gravatars are linked to your email address. When I changed our email due to our upcoming move, it quit recognizing “gravie”. You may rest easy as little gravie was nestled safely inside my blog all along. Gravie will soon be making appearances again at a blogsite near you.

  1. Good to know. I was reading WordPress last night and they were referring to the Avatar as a Blogatar. Whatever…it is …it won’t follow me to blogger sites. Glad you found yours again.

    • It kind of reminds me of the time when I was a little boy and came home from school to find my parents had moved to another city without telling me. Oh wait, that might have been when I was in college……

  2. Without your world-famous gravatar, you ran a big risk of having your pearls of witty wisdom ignored. You’ve developed a rep as a force to be reckoned with, so people see your smiling faces and just expect there to be goodness attached.

It’s like getting a reputation as a smart kid in school. Once you get that, the teachers grade you better because they’ve heard you’re smart ahead of time and they fit the experience into their expectations.

  3. Now why on earth would you want a Gravatar as sweet as he may be..when you have such a lovely photograph of yourself and Mrs CV..I would appreciate seeing those lovely blue eyes on my screen anyday of the week !

  4. My, oh my, but you are a handsome couple! Maybe WordPress removed your gravatar because of all the complaints they were getting from jealous couples who can’t compete. You never know…

  5. I wonder if the zombies ate it? If that’s the case you are out of luck about getting it back. Can you go to your WP account and edit your gravie? If so, that is probably the easiest way to do it. BTW, I always know it’s you, wit beyond measure is man’s greatest treasure. πŸ™‚

    • Zombies?…..hmmmm. This could be far more serious than I thought. As much fear and trepidation as I have working with WordPress, I will give that a try.

Your turn to write, but please don't be wittier than me. My ego is quite fragile.
