In case any of you were wondering why I haven’t been my ubiquitous self lately, we spent the last week in Colorado enjoying the beauty of the golden Aspen trees of autumn.
It isn’t very often that we bloggers get to meet one another personally. That’s probably a good thing, considering the havoc we create in the blogosphere should stay in the blogosphere. But, as every rule has an exception, I took advantage of that by meeting with one of my favorite bloggers while out West. Winsomebella, who writes some of the most eloquent and soul-searching articles you will ever read, agreed to meet Patty and me for dinner one evening. Her partner John, a most charming chap in his own right, joined us. After commenting on their bravery, since they didn’t really know if thecvillean was a legitimate blogger or an axe murderer, we had a most delightful evening together. Her genuine warmth, which always shows through in her blogs, was just as evident in her conversation. If you want some fascinating, intuitive reading, not to mention exceptional photography, do yourself a favor and visit her blog.
This is the second blogger we have met, the first being Susan of Coming East. We live a short distance from Susan and her husband George, and have become friends in a short period of time. I hope as I travel around the country or overseas, I’ll meet many more of you. Be leery of that next knock on the door, as forewarned is forearmed.
One of the most enjoyable parts of last week was a trip down to Durango, Colorado (not far from the New Mexico border) . We went there to ride the Durango to Silverton train through the breath-taking San Juan mountains. This nearly 150 year-old narrow gauge railroad was cut through the mountains in almost unbelievable conditions to facilitate the 19th century silver mining trade. While it only lasted a short time for that purpose, it has since been a wonder for visitors the world over. But enough talking about it. I’ll let some pictures make my case.
I’ve been trying to “catch up” with your blogs since returning so please bear with me. I most certainly missed you all.

What a wonderful experience (and some beautiful pictures to boot!) The world of blogging is an amazing place, I already feel like I know so many of my blogging mates that it seems the natural step to meet them in person.
That being said, if you ever journey north to CT…..;-)
Be careful what you wish for……
How awesome! I’ve always wished to take this train ride but now I’ve seen that ’tilt’, my stomach isn’t so sure! 😉
I knew nothing about the clfifs and tilt before I climbed aboard. That was for the best!
Ignorance is bliss in such matters. 😉
Beautiful pictures! And how great that you met the lovely and talented Winsomebella. Makes me believe that you people are really real!
Yes, Peg, and your name came up during dinner. (We were eating alphabet soup)
It looks like a toy train, Al. Are you sure this wasn’t a miniature set? Lucky you for getting to meet Stacia. Hope she decides to visit Virginia Beach so I can get to meet her.
Let’s keep the pressure on her.
Your pics of the Durango-Silverton run make me want to do it again—nice! Thank you Al and Patty for the real-time dinner and conversation. Loved it 🙂
The pleasure was all ours Stacia. Hope we can do it again in Virginia!

It was stunning, Pseu. Just a few harrowing moments when there was nothing but a thousand feet of canyon as you leaned out the window!

It was a most enchartning day, Patrecia. One of those days when you’re just glad to be alive.
Oh my, I really have to go explore more of this beautiful nation…
I can’t get enough of the Rockies. I’ve been out there at least a dozen times.
Well, next time, take me with you!
Let me know when you’ve purchased the tickets!
Beautiful – there is a heaven on earth and a train runs through it. I saw you and Patty leaning from the car to take photos.
I wasn’t the one taking pictures, I was the one drinking the “Rusty Spike”.
