(Note: I rarely re-post, but since this is seasonal and I have several new followers since last year, here is my Christmas entry once again.)
With Christmas eve now fast approaching, I thought I would share with you a strange experience I had one year around this time (with apologies to Clement Moore).
Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the sphere,
Not a blogger was stirring, not a click could you hear.
Their processors silent, their publishing done,
No comments got posted, not one single one.
WordPress fanatics were all snug in their beds,
While visions of “Freshly Pressed” danced in their heads.
But all warm in his jammies, his nightcap amiss,
Big Al was up thinking and waiting for Kris.
Old Kringle himself was now flying about,
And Al knew that this house was soon on his route.
He wanted to leave something special for him,
Since with cookies and milk he’d be filled to the brim.
So he pondered and thought “What would Santa like most?
Since I want him to think I’m a really good host.
I know he’ll be tired and needing some pep,
Whatever I do must put spring in his step.”
So he thought and he thought and he pondered some more,
Then just like a lion let out with a roar.
I’ll write him a blog, he’ll love it for sure,
He’ll laugh when he reads it, then finish his tour!”
Yes, this was a project he just couldn’t shirk,
A masterpiece blog must come from this work.
So he sat at the keyboard all ready and hyped
Looking for just the right words to be typed
But before he wrote much, he started to doze,
Then went out like a light from his head to his toes.
He slumped in the chair, not hearing a sound,
Not hearing the bells as they circled around.
The sleigh and the reindeer, came up in a hurry,
But sleepyhead Al was immune to the flurry.
Then Santa bounced in and to his surprise,
There sat a tired blogger, unable to rise.
So he brushed off his boots and he put down his pouch,
And helped the worn blogger get onto the couch.
With Al nestled in, still sawing those Zs,
Santa sat himself down, now completely at ease.
Soon the morning arrived and the rays of the sun,
Awakened Big Al, now his restful night done.
Then he saw his computer, then remembered his task
“Why didn’t I finish?” was all he could ask.
With much disappointment he went to the screen,
Getting ready with sadness to wipe it all clean.
When all of a sudden he noticed below,
That something was written that he didn’t know.
He wondered out loud “who could this have been?”
Then he looked at each line and broke out in a grin.
His smile grew larger with every mouse click,
For now he was sure that it came from St. Nick.
“Don’t worry dear blogger, your effort was great,
I know in my heart that your writing’s first-rate.
Just because you got tired, don’t feel that you failed,
I know that your blogs will all henceforth be hailed.”
“So stay at that keyboard and on my behalf,
Keep posting those blogs that make everyone laugh.
And pass on the message I leave with delight,
Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!”

Dear Al, it is a joy to follow you and read your posts. Happy Christmas to you and all your loved ones. x
Thank you Jane. The same to you and David and your extended family. Looking forward to hearing more from you in 2014!
Too many things happen on the way to Christmas! Definitely a post worth a repeat.
Merry Christmas to you and yours, Patti.
Ho ho ho 🙂
I had forgotten the ending ( I always forget the endings which is great cos it means I can watch films over and over & enjoy them every time!) apparently learning to play piano helps with dementia….
I thought Santa was going to get you freshly pressed!
Let’s wait till the 25th with baited breath….
I’m afraid I’ve castigated the FP crew a few too many times to get recognition from them now.
But thank you. You are a loyal follower ….and #1 commentor on my site stats….soooo an extra special very MERRY CHRISTMAS to you!
I have some lovely ’emoticons’ that I could put on here for Christmas to make your blog all festive but they don’t show up on your computer
Keep trying. By the way, don’t know why this popped into my head just now, but how did the cat get the name Lilly “Plankton”?
The girls named our first cat Tiggles cos he looked like a tiger, so Peter insisted in being a part of the naming of Lilly… Lilly because the is the opposite if lilly white & plankton cos it sounds good with Lilly!!
In short, blame Peter xx
Interesting. It is rather distinguished now that I think about it. Sounds rather like the title of a TV series one might find on BBC.
Indeed it does 🙂
PS the emoticons below show up on my computers… on my PC they are in black & white & on my Mac they are in full colour. Apparently they don’t show up on android devices!
Why also are they awaiting moderation I wonder?
They finally came through. Very festive! Thank you.
Al, this is wonderful~~~you oughtta be a writer or somethin’. 🙂 Merry Christmas, friend.
I don’t know, Vickie, does bein somethin pay well?
P.S. Merry Christmas to you too.
Ho ho ho. You always make me smile, which is an important part of my exercise regime these days. Thankyou
We should always be ready and willing to help each other with our workouts!
I love this too!
Thanks, Michelle. Santa also told me to wish you an especially Merry Christmas!
Thank you, Al 🙂
Well, I am one of the newbies round here so it is all fresh and wonderful to me. You disappearing??? Goodness me, with a holiday that long, you must be a Northern Ireland politician! Seasons greetings to you and yours and may santa bring wonderful surprises.
Heck, Marie, I could run for President here. I could easily take Hawaiian vacations and play golf everyday.
When you become President, don’t forget your Irish family! 😉
Are you available for Secretary of State?
That would be a real SOS situation!
I KNEW the big guy was a blogger – stands to reason! May all your postings be bright, Al.
Back at ya, Peg!
Just as good the second time around. Merry Christmas, Al.
Thanks, Steve. And to think, I never used to believe in Santa Claus! A very Merry Christmas to you and Ann. Marcia keeps us posted on your goings on….hope you had a good trip to S.F.
Does this mean you are out of here until next year? Boo Hiss!!
Probably, unless I see an opportunity to be a smartass again before the New Year
Dear Al…I remember reading it last year and the year before..no matter how many years have passed it is so typical and I loves it…so yes , remember it again next year too
Thanks, Patrecia. How are those pups doing? Need to see some more pictures!!
This is great. I love your words, and I didn’t read it last yearl. Or else I forgot it. Glad you reposted as I wouldn’t have wanted to miss it. Be sure and repost next year in case I forget it again which is more than likely. Haha! Not because it’s forgettable but because I’m forgetful.
Thanks Bernice. If I forget to re-post it next year, remind me, if you remember. If I remember, I’ll remind you to remind me, if I don’t forget.
